چکیده

The radiation efficiency of an acoustically thick circular cylindrical shell has been examined by calculations using the boundary element method for three different boundary conditions, and by conducting experiments using point excitation with the boundary conditions being free at both ends. Both the numerical and experimental results indicate that the radiation efficiency attains a value of unity at frequencies well below the critical frequency. Analysis has been made to explain the behaviour of acoustically thick shells.

Sound radiation from nested cylindrical shells

ABSTRACT Fluid-loaded nested cylindrical shells are modelled using a doubled-walled cylindrical shell structure closed at each end by circular end plates and excited by a transverse force at one end. The effects of various influencing factors on the radiated sound power are examined corresponding to non-concentricity of the cylindrical shells, entrained fluid and rib connections in the annular ...

Analytical and numerical approaches to predict radiated sound power of fluid-loaded cylindrical shells

ABSTRCT Prediction of the vibro-acoustic responses of fluid-loaded cylindrical shells is important for underwater vehicles. In this work, a number of analytical and numerical approaches to predict the radiated sound power of a fluid-loaded cylindrical shell are compared. In the first approach, an analytical methodology is used whereby the equations of motion for the cylindrical shell are solved...

Modal contributions to the acoustic responses of fluid-loaded shells

This work compares results from analytical and numerical techniques to predict the modal contributions to the radiated sound power and far-field sound pressure for structures submerged in a heavy fluid medium. A fluid-loaded cylindrical shell with hemispherical end caps is examined. The cylinder is excited by either axial or transverse forces acting at one end, to predominantly excite the lowes...

A comparison of numerical methods for the large–scale modelling of acoustic coupled fluid-structure interactions of double-walled cylindrical shells

This paper presents a comparison of numerical methods used to model large scale acoustic coupled fluidstructure interaction (FSI) problems for single and double-walled cylindrical shells. The finite element method (FEM) is used to model the structure while the fast multipole boundary element method (FMBEM) is used to model the fluid domain and both models are coupled on the shared boundary surf...

Understanding how a cutout influences the load bearing capacity and buckling behavior of cylindrical shells is fundamental in the design of structural components used in automobiles, aircrafts, and marine structures. In this article, simulation and analysis of steel cylindrical shells with various lengths, include quasi elliptical cutout, subjected to axial compression were systematically carri...
